Fine wine bar by night at Regent Singapore
Before word of Park90’s opening was even out, oenophiles and sommeliers the island over had already caught wind of it—and it’s little wonder why.
This fine wine bar is making waves among wine connoisseurs for all the right reasons: a massive, growing collection of over 800 labels that are predominantly rated 90 and above by Robert Parker Wine Advocate; it’s the first and only wine bar in town to serve Domaine de la Romanee-Conti and Chateau Petrus wines by the glass; and (perhaps most importantly) is a place welcoming of casual drinkers despite its clear leanings towards a more elite audience.
Make no mistake, Park90—whose name is derived from its affiliation with Robert Parker and their universally recognized wine rating system—is by no means a place for knocking back bottles, even though with prices starting from $59, that’s certainly possible. Rather, at least a modicum of enthusiasm in wine should be the reason you come visit.
Once settled into a plush chair or sofa, you’ll find a staggering list of vinos to choose from. While dominated by labels from Burgundy, Head Sommelier Mason Ng makes it a point to broaden the selection as he grows the collection to a thousand labels. To help you pick, there’s a curated sommelier menu with a more manageable number of wines on the list, all available by the glass ($15-45) too. But of course, the most eye-catching label on the full menu has to be the 2009 Domaine de la Romanee-Conti Grand Cru, available at $5,500 a glass or $27,500 for the whole bottle.
There’s food available too, courtesy of Regent’s other F&B outlets. Basilico and Summer Palace offer a good mix of Italian classics and Chinese cuisine like cold cuts ($28), thick-cut fries ($14) and roast meat platters ($30) that make for great wine pairings.
Of mention also is their membership system, priced at $5,000 and $10,000 for Premier and Grand tier statuses respectively. The value of the annual membership is redeemable for wines at Park90, so you’re in essence paying in advance. Membership grants access to a selection of members-only wines, tasting notes on RobertParker.com, and free corkage at certain participating restaurants.
Member or not, if you’re planning to come, make sure to do so only between the hours of 6pm-12mn; during other hours, the same space is instead home to Regent’s Tea Lounge.
